If I ever move...they’re comin’ with me!
by Snazzy, about 7 years agoFrom the day I moved in my current neighbors have been the best. Over the many years we’ve spent next to each other we’re seen our families grow, move out and marry ..... what a night that was! We’ve shed tears through divorces and deaths .... and laughed at our New Years Eve antics. There’s been many of an “un-planned” Saturday night dinner or BBQ, just slapped together but we’ve never cared. Sometimes accompanied with a “tasting” of the latest scotch on offer from Dan Murphy’s. I trust them whole heartedly, even the gas man knows to go to them... Continue reading

I’d be lost without them. I classify them not only as my dearest friends.... but family.

by KF83, about 7 years agoMy neighbours have been amazing since the day I moved in. They have given me fruit off their trees, given my dogs Christmas presents, cleaned my gutters, put my bins out. I'm so lucky to have them!

From there was a friendship invited to parties, to swim in their pool and always notified by person when they are making noise ect, i have 1 more neighbour that i see everyday around 10am, i always have a nice wave with or a conversation whichever suits us both for time its great. I love the fact everyone is so genuine and helpful around here just having neighbours to wave to and talk to and not feel alienated is great it really does make you feel a part of a community and recognise and know people living around you. I feel safer because of this too.

by HelenW04, about 7 years agoWithin the last year we have new next door and over the road neighbours. Both are young couples,
bringing a bit of life into an aging area. No noisy parties or loud music, just a friendly "hello" when
we see them. Great.

Grandparents grandparents everywhere
by Mumontherun, about 7 years agoWe came here 18 months ago, and discovered that we had lovely older people on both sides.
One day my young daughter realised she didn’t have grandparents in her life, and she went to the fence screaming out the neighbours names. She asked them if they could be her grandpa and grandma, and they have been ever since. A similar thing happened with the old man on the other side. So my children feel that we are surrounded by family, and are treated like grandchildren from both sides of the fence.

Our Hero in thongs fighting fires
by Emma, about 7 years agoLast Year I was home with my son as my partner just went around the corner to help a friend. I was laying in my room watching TV with my 9-year-old son. He kept saying "Mummy I can Smell Smoke". At first, I just thought it was maybe a bush fire as we often get the smell of the smoke. Another 10mins went by and again he said: "Mummy it's getting really strong". I raced around the house but couldn't see any fire, by the smoke was coming through our ducted air conditioner vents. I raced around the house but couldn't see any fire, by the smoke was coming through our ducted air conditioner vents. I ran outside as the only thing I could think of was our BBQ outside. When I was running out back door my neighbor from across the road was running towards the house. Our evaporative air-conditioner was on fire on our roof. I took my son straight to another neighbors house and called the fire department and my husband. I went back to my house and our neighbor was on the roof with thongs and hose putting out the fire. By the time my husband and the fire brigade arrived my neighbor had put out the fire and saved our house. We only had a bit of water damage and needed a new air conditioner.
What a Hero :) What a fantastic Neighbour :)

Modbury Madhouse
by DianaH, about 7 years agoI grew up in the house across the road from where I live now. I had so many 'Aunts and Uncles' in the neighbourhood growing up I knew I could go into numerous houses to get fed or just to hang out. And everybody hung out at our place (the Modbury Madhouse) as Mum was the best cook in the neighbourhood!
Now I am an adult with my own children and I moved back here as a single parent 10 years ago, and guess what, I still have a neighbourhood of people I can just pop into. Not as many... Continue reading

Now I am an adult with my own children and I moved back here as a single parent 10 years ago, and guess what, I still have a neighbourhood of people I can just pop into. Not as many of the original owners are still here but everyone is still willing to help out in a time of crisis.
Our pet bird got trapped when I was at work one day. My children went from house to house looking for someone to be home and help. They got lucky at the fourth house and found someone home. The neighbour came over, dismantled my china cabinets to remove them and retrieve the bird. I came home to a happy household and dusted furniture. You can't get much better help than that!

by Bel, about 7 years agoOften leaving the house early and arriving home late, interstate and overseas work trips mean I rely on my neighbours to help keep a look out at the property. They do so with care, it’s never too much of an ask and even bring my bins in on bin day! They water my lawns when I’m away and we always have a great chit chat and friendly neighborhood banter over the fence or across the road. Caring for my Dad in St Agnes
by KimY, about 7 years agoMy 82 year old dad lives with me and has done for 6.5 years. He has slowly declined in both physical and mental health. Up until October 2018 he was able to get about the neighbourhood and would go out every day. During 2018 we noticed that his mental health was declining as Dementia took hold but physically he was still pretty good. Then he started to have the odd fall. Up until October 2018 he was able to get about the neighbourhood and would go out every day. During 2018 we noticed that his mental health was declining as Dementia took hold but physically he was still pretty good. Then he started to have the odd fall. One Friday morning i was at work at received a call from a lady called Sue who apparently lives down the road from me. Sue and her husband Dennis were about to reverse out of their driveway to head off to kindergym to see their grand-daughter. Dennis saw my Dad laying on the footpath at the end of their driveway so they stopped to help. Dad had fallen and hit his head and cut his arm quite badly. He was able to show Sue a card i'd put in his wallet with his name and address on it so they took him home. Dennis went off to kindergym to honour their babysitting commitment and Sue remained with my dad in his granny flat, attached to my house. After she rang me i headed straight home. By the time i got home Sue had bandaged dad's arm, had made him a cup of tea and they were having a lovely chat about his adventures in his youth. I decided to take dad to the doctor to get his wounds checked out but first i convinced Sue to let me drive her to the kindergym at Tea Tree Gully so she could meet up with Dennis and the toddler. Later in the day both Sue and Dennis appeared on my doorstep to find out how Dad was. I was very glad to see them as i had planned to pop down and visit them (I had flowers and bottle of red as a Thank You gift). I had never met these people before and their care and support of my dad on that day was just lovely. Since then i have passed them in the street a few times and they always ask after dad. He is now unable to go out on his own following a broken pelvis as a result of a fall in October last and sadly he has no memory of the fall or Sue and Dennis helping him. The actions of my unknown neighbours that day will live with me always - people really are kind and caring.

We've even loosened a sheet in the back fence between us, so if we get home and can't find the dog we know he's in next door keeping them company! Across the road we have another lovely family. We've watched their children grow, and now we see their grandchildren visit regularly. People have come and gone in the street over the years and it's not uncommon to have kids riding their bikes up and down the street, or playing footy out on the road. It's a really lovely community feel in our street and we're so lucky to live here.
